REMOTE WORKER KITAS

Which visa to apply
for a child in Bali?

In this article, we collected information about which visas and permits are available for children, how they are connected to the parents’ visas, and what is important to know in 2025.

Moving to Indonesia with a child is not only about the sun, the ocean, and new opportunities. It is also about making sure that every family member feels safe and confident from the very first day. It is especially important that the child has a legal and stable status, which allows studying, getting medical care, and living without problems from the immigration authorities.

If one of the parents already has a C1, C12, D12 visa or a KITAS in category E33G (remote worker) or Investor KITAS, the child also has options to apply for the needed status. The main point is to understand which option is possible and what documents are required.

What changed in 2025?
The immigration system of Indonesia is not standing still — in recent months several important updates were introduced, and they affect not only adults but also children:
  • Clearer subtypes of KITAS for family members (including children) were introduced;
  • Conditions for extension and re-entry were clarified for long-term visas such as C12 and D12;
  • The process of getting a Child Visa (KITAS for a child) became easier if one of the parents already has a residence permit.
What visa options are available for children?
Depending on the type of visa of the parents, the child can have the following options:

How does the parents’ status affect the child’s visa situation?
What is required to apply for a KITAS for a child?
If the parent already has a valid KITAS, the following documents are usually needed to apply for the child’s status:

  • Child’s passport valid for at least 12 months;
  • Birth certificate (translated into Indonesian and notarized);
  • Parent’s KITAS details;
  • Address of residence in Indonesia;
  • Child’s photo;
  • Parents’ marriage certificate.
The application process depends on the local immigration office and the type of the parent’s visa, but in most cases it takes up to 10 working days.

Let us summarise
Child Visa (KITAS) is only for living in Indonesia.
Student KITAS is arranged through a school, and parents cannot be sponsors for this visa.
With D12 and C12 visas it is not possible to officially enroll a child in school — a KITAS is required.
The validity of a child’s KITAS is always linked to the parent’s KITAS and is extended together with it.
After turning 18 years old, the child will need another type of visa — for example, D12 or E33G.

Our recommendations
We work with families who move to Indonesia, and we see how much calmer and easier the adaptation is when every family member has a clear visa status.

Here are some tips based on real cases:
  • If you already have an E33G KITAS or an Investor KITAS, it is better to apply for a Child Visa for your child right away. This gives maximum flexibility and safety.
  • If you are now on a D12 or C12 visa, and plan to stay for a long time, we recommend to consider switching to a KITAS in advance — this is especially important if the child will go to school.
  • Do not delay the application process: immigration rules can change, and the procedure takes time.
  • If you are planning the move or are already in Indonesia, but not sure which way is best for your child’s status — we are always ready to advise.
